On August 15, 2023, a discussion was held amongst City Council regarding the current collection of solid waste fees. Staff recommended that the City convert to a single-hauler system and assess property owners a solid waste collection fee based on property type.
On August 21, 2023, the City Council approved the first reading of Ordinance No. 2023-2282: Modification of the Solid Waste Collection System with the intent to convert from the existing trash collection open market system to a single-hauler system.
On September 5, 2023, the City Council approved the final Ordinance No. 2023-2282: Modification of the Solid Waste Collection System which, requires that “the initial proceeding for imposition of an assessment shall be the Council’s adoption of an Initial Assessment Resolution.” The Initial Assessment Resolution will lay the foundation by:
§ Describing the proposed Assessment Area;
§ Describing the essential services proposed for funding from proceeds of the Assessment;
§ Estimating the service cost;
§ Establishing a maximum assessment rate; and
§ Describing the proposed method of apportioning the service cost among parcels of property
Once approved, the next step in the assessment process is to hold a public hearing on the Solid Waste Assessment then present a Final Resolution for your approval.
