REQUEST: The request before the City Council is to allow an extended "wet zone" for the Mardi Gras Celebration on Saturday, March 1st, 2025.
DISCUSSION: The Special Event Team met with event organizers and reviewed the Special Event Application on Thursday, January 16th. The Special Event Team recommended approval of the event as it was presented. Since the meeting, event organizers have requested to expand the event to include the businesses on the west side of Railroad Square. This request will require a new road closure that spans west from Grand Blvd to Bank Street. The request to create a "wet zone" in this area is so that attendees can purchase and consume alcohol from local businesses while attending the Mardi Gras event. The Mardi Gras event festivities are scheduled to occur between the hours of 6:00pm to 10:00pm and the "wet zone" hours extending until 2:00am.
RECOMMENDATION: The recommendation before the City Council is to approve the request to extend the "wet zone" for the Mardi Gras celebration on Saturday, March 1st, 2025.
