As the Council is aware, the City Library provides access to essential information resources. As usage of library resources has increased, so have requests for the Library's Community Engagement and Membership teams to:
-present offsite informational presentations, early literacy storytimes, database and research instruction, technology assistance, and resume building classes
-share information about Library resources at community outreach events
-process more requests for the homebound using Interlibrary Loan(ILL)/FLIN ShareIT materials and the Library's Books by Mail Program
The introduction of a mobile library branch will significantly benefit our community by addressing these needs and offering greater access to essential information resources for residents across all areas of the city. It will also serve a vital role in expanding library services to individuals with limited access to physical libraries.
The mobile library branch will provide library resources free of charge to card-carrying library members. In addition to offering on-the-spot library card registrations, a concierge collection of donated items will also be available for those who do not meet the library card requirements.
Once the vehicle is received, staff from Fleet Management and Technology Solutions, along with specialized vendors, will equip the vehicle with specialized equipment, shelving, and state-of-the-art technology to ensure ease of use and uninterrupted access to all library resources, including internet connectivity.
This project has generated significant community interest, along with financial support from the Friends of the Library Organization, as well as numerous individuals and businesses involved in fundraising events over the past three years.
Additionally, the Library has also recently applied for grant funding aimed at acquiring new children's books (Florida Humanities Organization) and state-of-the-art technology such as Starlink Internet connectivity, through the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funding from the Florida Department of State's Division of Library Information and Library Services.
