REQUEST:
The action requested of City Council is to review and consider the approval of the attached proposal from Alan Jay Fleet Sales in the amount not to exceed $77,275.40 for the purchase of one F550 Utility Service Truck with Crane attachment and the City's Fleet Maintenance proposal for out fitting in the amount not to exceed $3,000. The Alan Jay Fleet Sales pricing is in accordance with the National Auto Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA) Bid No. 2017-102811. Approval of the contract is in accordance with the City Finance rules and regulations.
DISCUSSION:
This type of vehicle is used by Water Distribution maintenance staff for routine repairs and emergency repairs such as fire hydrant replacement, large pipe and valve removal and replacement, as well as loading and unloading of large pieces of equipment used in several types of maintenance and repairs of the utility systems. The existing 2003 utility service truck with crane attachment is 16 years old and has served its useful life. Maintenance cost have escalated, the crane does not operate, body mounts need to be replaced, and the air condition system is defective. Subsequent to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisors condition review, a recommendation of replacement has been submitted to the Department Head.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the purchase is recommended.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:
This piece of equipment is budgeted in the 2016-2017 Capital Equipment/Improvement Plan for the Water and Reclaimed Water Distribution Division Account No. 401-0107-533-64-15.
