REQUEST:
The action requested of City Council is to review and consider the approval of the attached proposal from Alan Jay Fleet Sales in the amount not to exceed $58,136.20 for the purchase of one F550 Utility Service Truck and the City's Fleet Maintenance proposal for outfitting in the amount not to exceed $3,000. The Alan Jay Fleet Sales pricing is in accordance with the National Auto Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA) Bid No. 2017-102811. Approval of the contract is in accordance with the City Finance rules and regulations.
DISCUSSION:
This type of utility service truck is replacing existing service truck that is 11 years old and has served its useful life. Subsequent to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor’s condition review, a recommendation for replacement has been submitted to the Department Head. High maintenance costs, a defective transmission, and numerous other repairs have been identified. This equipment is used by the Water Distribution Division's maintenance staff to respond to daily maintenance activities and emergency repairs throughout the City's water service area. This equipment and body style are the same as specified for all utility service vehicles in our fleet and are consistent with industry standards for this type of work activity.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the purchase is recommended.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:
This piece of equipment is budgeted in the 2016-2017 Capital Equipment/Improvement Plan for the Water and Reclaimed Water Distribution Division Account No. 401-0107-533-64-15.
