REQUEST:
This request is for Council to conduct a first reading of Ordinance No. 2017-2115 Amending Section 14-23 of the City Code of Ordinances relating to preventing excessive noise throughout the City.
DISCUSSION:
The City’s noise ordinance does not currently address the use portable megaphones on public property by individuals not connected with any City authorized or permitted event. Individual(s) have taken advantage of this omission regularly during parades and other events intentionally causing a distraction and creating strong negative reactions by the public attending the event.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that City Council conduct the first reading of Ordinance No. 2017-2115 Amending Section 14-23 of the City Code of Ordinances relating to preventing excessive noise throughout the City.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no cost associated with this proposed ordinance change.
