RE:	Request for Funding by Richey Suncoast Theatre for Elf the Musical

REQUEST:
The request is for City Council to deny the funding request from Richey Suncoast Theatre in the amount of $16,450 for Elf the Musical.

DISCUSSION:

Staff received a request for funding from Richey Suncoast Theatre in the amount of $16,450 for Elf the Musical to be held in Sims Park on December 8 & 10, 2017. The breakdown of the costs are as follows:

Building Materials $1000

Set Construction $500

Sound/Lights $9000**

Costumes $2000

Director/Music Director $2000

Choreographer $600

Rights/Royalties for Elf $850

Incidentals $500

Total ----------------------------$16,450

**includes 20 microphones for actors

The application was forwarded to the City's Cultural Affairs Committee for review and recommended funding amount. The Committee reviewed the application at its regularly scheduled meeting on June 19, 2017 and unanimously voted to recommend the event not be funded as the amount requested would exceed over seventy-five percent of the budgeted funds allotted for the entire fiscal year.

RECOMMENDATION:
Staff, along with the Cultural Affairs Committee, recommends that City Council deny the funding request from Richey Suncoast Theatre in the amount of $16,450 for Elf the Musical.

BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:

No funding is required for this item.
