| TO: | City of New Port Richey City Council | | FROM: | Robert M Rivera, Public Works Director | | DATE: | 12/19/2017 | | RE: | Police Department Auxiliary Power Generator Purchase - Consideration for Approval |
REQUEST:
The action requested of City Council is to review and consider the approval of the attached proposal from Ring Power Systems Inc., an authorized dealer of Caterpillar in the amount not to exceed $60,549.00 for the purchase of an auxiliary power generator for the Police Department building located at 6739 Adams Street. Pricing is in accordance with the National Auto Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA) Contract No. 080613-CAT.
DISCUSSION:
The generator equipment is used at the site to provide power for Police Department staff and equipment under emergency conditions such as power outages, tropical storms, and hurricanes. Some of the critical items powered during these conditions include equipment for emergency services dispatch, law enforcement software, EOC communications, and all other operational needs required for law enforcement to operate at the same capacity as they would under the building’s primary power supplied by Duke Energy. The Police Department’s existing auxiliary generator was purchased in 1995 and is 23 years old. Subsequent to staff’s inspection of the unit, it was determined that the generator is well beyond its serviceable life and is in need of replacement due to its condition and dependability factors.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the proposal is recommended.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:
This piece of equipment is identified in the City’s current CIP document and identified as Penny 4 Pasco Tax Dollars. | | | |
