Artist Jennifer Pearl attended the Cultural Affairs Committee Meeting on January 29, 2018 and presented a crosswalk painting project to be completed at the intersection of Bank Street and Grand Boulevard. She presented eight designs and the committee voted to recommend the stain glass fish. The Cultural Affairs Committee also voted to recommend funding of this project at the requested amount of $7000. The funding would provide for the materials for the painting project as well as the event to be held on the community painting day. A cost sheet has been provided by the Artist and is attached.
Jennifer Pearl will provide advanced notification to the property owners of the street closure. The City would be responsible for site preparation of the project area. The liquid brick material that is being recommended to paint the crosswalk requires no annual maintenance and is reported to have a life expectancy of fifteen years. The material specification sheets were not available at the time of submission of this agenda item.
All eight designs submitted by the Artist are attached along with the event packet. The design that was recommended by the Cultural Affairs Committee is attached. Following the committee meeting, the Artist submitted a revision to her recommend artwork and added her name to the design. Both designs are attached and identified.
The date for the painting project is requested for Saturday, March 3, 2018. Any necessary details to the artwork will be completed on Sunday, March 4th. An application of Clear-Coat is not required with this liquid brick product. The only concern for the date selected is that the Chasco Fiesta event starts to mobilize on the site on Tuesday, March 6th. The Artist is aware of the move-in date for Chasco and understands that there will be heavy traffic flow on the crosswalk and artwork. The Artist wishes to proceed with the March 3rd painting date.
