RE:Request to Purchase and Install Camera Systems for Police Impound Lot, Property Evidence Section and Police Boat Dock

REQUEST:

I respectfully request Council approval to purchase and have installed closed Circuit Television Cameras to cover the police impound lot, new police boat dock and the Department's property and evidence storage room at a total cost of $11,944.

 

 



DISCUSSION
:

The police impound lot and boat dock areas are prone to vandalism and theft. It is simply good police practice to ensure maximum measures are taken to ensure security of the police evidence storage room.for security of the of the police evidence room. The police impound lot and boat dock areas are prone to vandalism and theft. The proposed equipment will provide video surveillance that will be recorded and monitored by dispatchers in the Department's s Communications Dispatch Center. 

 

The eight high resolution cameras needed for the impound lot and property evidence areas will be  purchased directly from Security Camera Warehouse -- 11 Richland Street, Ashville, NC 28806 at a cost of $5,081.00. The installation, wireless access point and ancillary wiring will be accomplished by Masada Security -- 6401 1st Avenue South, St. Petersburg, FL 33707 at a cost of $2,950.00. The combine cost is $8,031.00

 

The four cameras, hard drive, ancilliary equipment, three-year warranty and installation of the camera system for the boat dock will be purchased from Advance Telecom -- 6601 State Road 54, New Port Richey, FL 34653 at a cost of $3,913.00.

 

The total cost of both camera systems with installations is $11,944.00



RECOMMENDATION:

I recommend Council approval of this request.

BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:

The total cost of this purchase is $11,944.00. $7,500 of the funds will be from CIP monies in the Department's FY 2017/2018 budget designated for lift gates for the Department's code enforcement vehicles, which I am requesting we forgo at this time. The remainder ($4,444.00) will be from abandoned property monies. This purchase will not directly affect the Department's FY 2017/2018 budget.
