REQUEST:
The request is for City Council to adopt Resolution No. 2018-09 honoring fifty years of municipal Home Rule.
DISCUSSION:
As you are aware, the last few legislative sessions have proposed legislation that specifically attacked local municipalities' Home Rule powers. Should this legislation have passed, the new laws would have had economically devastating impacts to our community. The Florida League of Cities has requested that municipalities across the State of Florida adopt the attached resolution not only to honor the 50th anniversary of Home Rule, but to create a gateway that will allow residents to become more educated on the importance of Home Rule.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that City Council adopt Resolution No. 2018-09 honoring fifty years of Home Rule as submitted.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:
