RE:First Reading - Ordinance No. 2018-2134: Food Trucks Ordinance

REQUEST:
The request is for City Council to conduct a first reading of Ordinance No. 2018-2134 regarding food trucks and to schedule a second reading on this matter for August 21, 2018.

DISCUSSION:

For some time now there has been some interest expressed in establishing an ordinance which would regulate the use of food trucks in the city.  In that regard a draft ordinance was presented at your meeting on June 19, 2018.  After discussion by Council, the ordinance was tabled.

Since that time several revisions were made to the draft ordinance in order to relax the standards to some extent by removing a number of the proposed requirements for food vendors. The specific changes are noted on the attachment to this communication and they relate to:

  • Requirement for a site plan

  • Evidence of owner permission

  • Frequency of operation

  • Hours of operation

  • Proximity to businesses and

  • Space, noise and ancillary items



RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that City Council conduct the first reading of Ordinance No. 2018-2134 regarding food trucks.

BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:
No funding is required for this item.
