| TO: | City of New Port Richey City Council | | FROM: | Robert M Rivera, Public Works Director | | DATE: | 8/21/2018 | | RE: | Second Reading - Ordinance No. 2018-2141: Property Lease Agreement with Kazu's Sushi for Dumpster |
REQUEST: The request of staff for City Council is to conduct the second and final reading and approval of Ordinance No. 2018-2141 allowing the authorization for execution of a lease agreement between the City of New Port Richey and Kazu’s Sushi attached as Exhibit “A” to Ordinance No. 2018-2141.
DISCUSSION: As City Council is aware, Kazu’s Sushi will be opening soon at 5706 Main St. in the downtown area. Prior to Kazu’s Sushi, Estela’s Mexican restaurant occupied the building. During that time, Estela’s used a two yard dumpster for their garbage and restaurant waste. This dumpster was located at the S.E. corner of the property behind a fenced area on the property facing Nebraska Ave. Subsequent to Kazu’s Sushi leasing of the property, they contacted City staff and informed them that a two yard dumpster would not meet their need and a larger dumpster would be required for the restaurant operations. They pointed out to City staff that the existing space could not accommodate a larger container and wanted to know if there was a solution the City could suggest or recommend to them. City staff met with Kazu’s Sushi on site to determine if a solution could be identified. At that time, it was determined that a larger dumpster could be located adjacent to the existing lift station on the N.E. corner of fence surrounding the lift station. Kazu’s Sushi was informed that a lease agreement would have to be executed and approved by City Council. The lease agreement would contain items Kazu’s Sushi would be responsible for such as, permitting, construction cost for the concrete pad, vinyl fencing with a locking gate, insurance requirements, continued maintenance to the site, as well as a monthly leasing fee to the City.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the second and final reading and approval of Ordinance No. 2018-2141 allowing the authorization for the execution of a lease agreement between City of New Port Richey and Kazu’s Sushi attached as Exhibit “A”.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: As mentioned above, all costs associated with the lease agreement will be the responsibility of Kazu’s Sushi. In addition, Kazu’s Sushi will pay the City $65.52 per month for the use of the City owned property. This cost is based on the property’s square footage and is based off of the current lease agreement the City has with Dulcet Restaurant for Cavalier Square. | | | |
