REQUEST: City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No.2018-12, authorizing the submittal of a state grant application by the Library Director regarding the Florida Department of State's Division of Library Information Services Public Library Construction Grant Program.
DISCUSSION: The Public Library Construction Grant provides state funds to governments to construct, expand, or renovate public libraries. Funds are awarded on a dollar-for-dollar match after evaluation of applications. The Legislature determines the amount appropriated annually for the program. Eligibility requirements include having an established program of free public library services and resources provided without discrimination to all residents of the legal service area taxed for library purposes. Criteria for ranking applications include considerations of community need, type of Library building, and a project narrative describing how the project will contribute to new or improved services for the community. The amount of grant funds awarded could range from $10,000- $500,000.
RECOMMENDATION: The recommendation is for the City Council to adopt Resolution 2018-12 expressing approval for the official submission of the grant application.
