| TO: | City of New Port Richey City Council | | FROM: | Debbie L. Manns, City Manager | | DATE: | 10/16/2018 | | RE: | Tampa Bay Regional Resiliency Coalitions Sea Level Rise Memorandum of Understanding |
REQUEST:
The request is to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Tampa Bay Resiliency Coalition in regard to necessary regional cooperation as it relates to the projected effects of sea-level rise and the resultant climate change.
DISCUSSION:
As you are aware from the presentation made by Mr. Sean Sullivan at your meeting on October 2, 2018, an effort is underway on the part of the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council to coordinate the Counties of Citrus, Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota by establishing a regional cooperative in respect to climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. In that respect, the City has been asked to join the group by entering into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tampa Bay Resiliency Coalition. The purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding is to affirm the City's commitment to participate in efforts to prepare, adapt and mitigate for the effects of sea-level rise and climate change on a regional level. Staff has reviewed the proposed Memorandum of Understanding and has determined that the content is appropriate.
RECOMMENDATION:
The recommendation is to enter into the Memorandum of Understanding as presented by the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council.
