On September 4, 2018 city council passed Ordinance 2018-2144. The purpose of the ordinance was to eliminate unsightly and unprotected commercial dumpsters. The ordinance calls for owners to enclose them in a manner that improves the unsightly appearance of commercial dumpsters.
Since passage of the ordinance, businesses have been notified of the new dumpsters containment design. As a result, business owners with non-compliant dumpsters must pull a permit. It's been recommended by city council that since the ordinance serves to mitigate slum and blight conditions, and that the business owner will incur a cost to pull the permit, that the CRA reimburse the city for cost of the permit.
Waiving the permit fee will serve to support the city-wide effort and provide for the capacity for business owner to move quickly in complying with the ordinance.
