On January 16, 2018 a bid was awarded to Arete Industries in the amount of $563,890 for the Wayfinding Signage Project. The project as you know, in large part involves the fabrication and installation of wayfinding signage within two phases. The first phase of the project includes monument signs at City Hall, the Library, Fire Station # 1, the Police Department and at the Public Works Operations Center in addition to parking lot identification signs and various directional signs. The second phase of the project will include main entry monument signs, additional directional signs along with park signage.
The contract related to this project provides that the project shall be completed in two phases and also provides a provision that the contract may be terminated by the City without cause, if in the City's reasonable discretion, the work completed by the contractor for Phase I is not aesthetically or otherwise acceptable. Although the contract can be terminated with cause based on issues related to both timeliness and quality, it is my opinion that it is in the best interest to the City that the award for Phase II of the project should be rescinded. Incidentally, Phase II of the project represents a deduct to the contract in the amount of $304,331.
