The request of staff for City Council is to review and consider for approval the Deductive Change Order in the amount of two thousand seven hundred sixty-five dollars and forty-six cents ($2,765.46) and the Final Pay Request in the amount of forty-seven thousand eight hundred forty-one dollars and ninety-eight cents $47,841.98 from The Hayes Construction Company, Inc. for the completion of the 2017 City Hall Renovations (Glass Block Replacement) Project.  

As City Council may recall, the north side exterior two story wall at City Hall contained areas of glass block windows and walls that were in disrepair and no longer met the State of Florida’s Building Code Standards.  These standards were upgraded subsequent to Hurricane Andrew’s destruction of building structures in 1992.  One of the most important additions to the code was and is, the requirement of impact resisting glass, which can withstand high velocity impact from wind-borne debris during a storm event.

As City Council is aware, the importance of City Hall to remain open subsequent to a storm event is paramount to the operations of the City Council, city staff, and city residents.  Prior to the completion of this project, the north side glass block areas of the building structure were considered a potential weak area susceptible to damage should renovations not occur.  This concern has since been eliminated due to the replacement of the glass block with the impact resistance glass and the installation of steel beam support structures.
