The City's contract with ATS will elapse in June, 2019. Staff has received a proposal from ATS to continue our relationship with them. In lieu of a $3,000 per annum contribution to the City's Safety Awareness Campaign, They have agreed to reduce the monthly fee per camera from $4,250 to $4,000 for the three-year period. This is an annual cost reduction of $15,000.
There continues to be a high number of motorists who fail to properly stop at red lights on U.S. 19. This is evidenced by the volume of Notices of Violations issued for violations recorded at key intersections where red light cameras are in place. In the last three years, there were 16,581, 13,239 and 16,239 Notices of Violations issued.
In 2018 alone, our police officers investigated 187 crashes along our stretch of U.S. 19. Many of those crashes resulted in extensive property damage and physical injuries. Five crashes resulted in deaths.
It is important that we continue our traffic enforcement efforts.
