As I am sure you will recall a request was submitted late last year to consider adopting an ordinance similar to one that has been adopted in the City of Gulfport which relates to providing protections from discrimination in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations and education.
In short, the Gulfport ordinance assigns responsibility to the city to hear and investigate complaints, conduct hearings and initiate civil action when appropriate related to presumed incidents of discrimination.
Incidentally, this item has been placed on your agenda at the suggestion of Councilman Altman.
