RE:Automatic Aid Agreement with the City of Port Richey

REQUEST:
The request is for City Council to authorize the City of New Port Richey Fire Department to enter into an Automatic Aid Agreement with the City of Port Richey Fire Department for structure fire response.

DISCUSSION:

The purpose of the Automatic Aid Agreement is to provide an automatic dispatch of one fire suppression vehicle to any and all reported structure fires in either party's jurisdiction. The one fire apparatus and personnel will be immediately dispatched to respond into the other party's jurisdiction for structure fires. The additional apparatus and personnel at structure fires will improve fire ground safety for firefighters  as well as residents. Additionally,  Automatic Aid Agreements are recognized by ISO as part of a first alarm response. We will gain credit for the additional engine company responding, increasing our number from 2 to 3,  which is the ISO requirement for a City our size. We will also gain ISO credit for the personnel on the additional engine included in the structure fire response.

 

The City of Port Richey's City Council voted to approve the execution of the Automatic Aid Agreement at their regular City Council meeting held on October 8, 2019.



RECOMMENDATION:
Staff requests that City Council authorize the execution of the Automatic Aid Agreement between the City of New Port Richey Fire Department and the City of Port Richey Fire Department.
