RE:Technology Solutions Department Auxiliary Power Generator Project - Consideration for Approval

REQUEST:

The action requested of City Council is to review and consider the approval of the attached proposal from Garrett Rhodes Electrical Services, Inc., in the amount not to exceed $34,071.00 for the purchase and installation of an auxiliary power generator for the Technology Solutions Department (TSD).  Two other proposals were submitted by McWilliams and Sons Inc. $31,995.00 and Farrell Power Company $35,936.00.  The McWilliams and Sons Inc. proposal was rejected due to the unavailability of a licensed electrician to perform the work.

DISCUSSION
:

The generator equipment and installation will be a stationary facility subsequent to the project’s completion.  The facility will be used to provide power for the TSD’s staff and equipment under emergency conditions such as power outages, tropical storms, and hurricanes. As City Council is aware, TSD operates and maintains the City critical technology system powered during these conditions and as such, needs to operate at the same capacity as they would under the building’s primary power supplied by Duke Energy. At its current state, the TSD department has approximately one (1) hour of back up battery supply and is dependent on the City’s facility maintenance division to set up a portable generator for auxiliary power.  Once completed, this project will eliminate that need.

RECOMMENDATION:

Approval of the proposal is recommended.

BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:

This piece of equipment is identified in the City’s current CIP document and identified as Penny for Pasco Tax Dollars.
