RE:Sims Park Sculpture Walk Proposal

REQUEST:

The request before City Council is to review the Sims Park Sculpture Walk artist proposal as presented by the Cultural Affairs Committee.

DISCUSSION
:

On February 19, 2020 the Cultural Affairs Committee voted unanimously to use the artwork of Marc De Waele for all eight sculpture displays located in Sims Park and around Orange Lake.  These sculptures would be displayed for the next eighteen months until the next “Call for Artists”.  Marc De Waele is a former New Port Richey resident and Belgian American Master Painter and Sculpture who recently passed away in 2018.

De Waele’s wife, Jill De Waele, would receive a $6,000 stipend ($750.00 per sculpture) to cover the transportation, installation, and removal of the artwork, and an additional $1,000.00 in prize money.

RECOMMENDATION:

The recommendation is to approve the artwork of Marc De Waele for the “Sims Park Sculpture Walk” display identified in the discussion above.

BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:

This project is funded in the Cultural Affairs Committee budget.
