RE:Fire Station No.2 Replacement Project Task Order No.1 - Engineering Services

REQUEST:
The request of staff for City Council is to review and consider for approval Task Order No.1 from Spring Engineering Inc. for engineering services in the amount not to exceed $216,500.00 for the 2020 Fire Station No.2 project design and construction services.


DISCUSSION
:
As City Council may recall, on March 13,2020 City staff held interviews with consultants that submitted RFQ packages for the design and construction services for the construction of a new fire station to be located on the N.E. corner of Marine Pkwy and Grand Boulevard.  On March 18, 2020 City Council approved staff's recommendation to select Wannemacher Jensen Architects. Subsequent to failed negotiations with the firm, staff contacted Spring Engineering Inc. and requested a fee proposal for the station's design and construction.  Spring Engineering Inc. was ranked number two of the three firms selected by staff and approved by City Council.  Spring Engineering Inc. is familiar with this type of structure design and build.  Staff is confident that the firm has the expertise to deliver a product that meets and or exceeds the demands and standards set by City Council and staff.

RECOMMENDATION:

Approval of Task Order No.1 in an amount not to exceed $216,500.00 is recommended.

BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:

The Fire Station No.2 Project is currently budgeted in the Capital Improvement Fund
