RE:Duke Energy Clean Energy Connection Program – Consideration for Approval

REQUEST:

The request of staff for City Council is to review and consider for approval, the attached agreement between the City of New Port Richey and Duke Energy for the purchase of Renewable Energy Credits (REC).




DISCUSSION
:

On June 30, 2020 Duke Energy filed for approval to the Public Service Commission the Clean Energy Connection Program.  This program is opened for enrollment to Local Government Agencies from May 11, 2020 to August 31, 2020.  The program is 30 years in length and has no penalties for early withdrawal.  This programs allows for the purchase of solar generator power without the agencies having to construct and maintain the renewable energy system while receiving the ownership credits.

 

Mr. Jeff Baker, Government and Community Relations Manager Duke Energy – South Coastal Zone has been asked to present to Council a detailed presentation about the program elements and enrollment details as it relates to  the City of New Port Richey should City Council elect to move forward with the program enrollment.   

 




RECOMMENDATION:

The approval of the agreement is recommended.   




BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding for the purchase of REC’s are identified in Department and Divisional operating budgets.
