REQUEST:
The agenda request is for the City Council to allow a presentation on the Fair Housing Act.
DISCUSSION:
As a requirement for participation in the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, local governments are required to entertain a presentation on the Fair Housing Act. The Act prohibits discrimination by direct providers of housing, including municipalities, whose practices make housing unavailable to persons because of:
* Race or color;
* Religion;
* Sex;
* National origin;
* Familial status; or
* Disability.
The Act also provides procedures for handling individual complains of discriination.
RECOMMENDATION:
The Development Department recommends the City Council entertain the presentation on the Fair Housing Act.
