RE:Request to Purchase Stormwater Utility 4” Portable Pump

REQUEST:

The action requested of City Council is to review and consider the approval of the attached proposal from Thompson Pump and Manufacturing Co., Inc., in the amount not to exceed $47,881 for the purchase of one 4-inch Portable Stormwater Pump and accessories.  The proposal contains pricing in accordance with the current Florida Sheriff’s Association Contract Bid Award #FSA20-EQU18.0-Heavy Equipment, item 276.

DISCUSSION
:

This type of equipment is used by the Stormwater Utility Division during and prior to large rain events such as Hurricanes, Tropical Storms, and low pressure systems.  Over the past several storm seasons the utility has had to consistently rent additional pumps during the storm events for the purpose of preventing and reducing the flooding of private properties, the City owned roadway network, and low lying areas that historically are prone to flooding.  With the purchase of this pump, the utility will lessen their dependability on acquiring rental pumps and the chance of the pumps not being available.

In addition to the pumps used for Stormwater flooding activities, these types of pumps can be utilized for lift station bypass setups when motor and pump failures occur within the sewer collections division.

RECOMMENDATION:

Approval of the purchase is recommended.

BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:

This piece of equipment is budgeted in the 2020-2021 Capital Equipment/Improvement Program for the Stormwater Utility Account No. 002103.46431.
