RE:Fire Station No. 2 – Duke Energy Utility Underground Conversion

REQUEST:

The request of staff for City Council is to review and consider for approval the attached invoice from Duke Energy for electrical upgrades in the amount not to exceed $110,451.23.



DISCUSSION
:

As City Council is aware, the replacement/construction of Fire Station No. 2 on the N.E. corner of Marine Pkwy and Grand Blvd is scheduled to begin in 2021.  As part of the design, electrical engineers from Duke Energy and the City’s consultant Spring Engineering reviewed the existing electrical grid to determine if the existing electrical conditions were sufficient enough to supply building power for the proposed structure, power redundancy, and overhead conflicts.  The attached invoice for service upgrades addresses those items identified.  In addition, all upgrades will be installed underground eliminating all overhead conditions associated with the site including Streetlighting along School Road. 



RECOMMENDATION:

Approval of the invoice is recommended.

Funds for this project are identified in account No. 121104-06399-3004.
