REQUEST:
The action requested of Council is to approve the attached proposal from Vermeer Corporation in the amount not to exceed $113,142 for the purchase of one (1) 2020 Vacuum Excavator (VE). The proposal contains pricing in accordance with the current Sourcewell contract bid award #012418-VRM.
DISCUSSION:
The proposed purchase of one (1) VE unit would replace the Utility’s existing VE unit which was purchased in 2002 and is 19 years old. The existing VE unit has served its useful life and is in poor mechanical condition. Should the purchase be approved the existing unit will be sold by auction once the new unit arrives. The VE unit is used by Utility staff to excavate or “soft dig” around underground utilities for repairs or maintenance where digging by conventional methods is either impractical or unsafe. This equipment is also used when performing valve maintenance, utility locate requests, and in conjunction with Global Positioning System (GPS) data collection activities for incorporating existing facility data into the department’s Global Information System (GIS) asset management system where physical excavation of a facility is required.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the purchase and declaring the 2002 vacuum excavator “surplus equipment” are recommended.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:
This equipment purchase is budgeted in the 2020-2021 Capital Equipment/Improvement Plan in the Water Distribution Division and are identified as Water and Sewer Funds. | | | |
