As City Council is aware, the Municipal Association of Pasco is comprised of officials from Pasco County's six municipalities. The meetings are scheduled to take place on a quarterly basis. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meetings were suspended until such time as it was safe to meet in person. There has been expressed interest by the other municipalities to resume meetings with the next meeting taking place on Thursday, August 5, 2021.
On July 1, 2014, Section 166.0213, Florida Statutes, was amended to authorize a governing body of a municipality to meet and discuss matters of mutual interest with the governing body of the county within which the municipality is located or the governing body of another municipality so long as an ordinance or resolution is passed by the governing body authorizing their participation in the joint meeting. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this requirement was ever approved by City Council which is why this agenda item is being brought before you for your consideration.
The City Attorney has reviewed and approved the attached resolution which allows not only for City Council's participation at the August 5, 2021 joint meeting but for any and all subsequent quarterly meetings of the Municipal Association of Pasco as scheduled in accordance with Section 166.0213, Florida Statutes.
