REQUEST:

The request of staff for the Board of Directors is to review and consider for approval the attached Change Order No. 2 submitted by Kokolakis Contracting in the amount not to exceed $24,200 for the design, purchase, and installation of an electrical transformer associated with suppling power to the electric vehicle charging stations.




DISCUSSION:

As the CRA board is aware, the City has contracted with Kokolakis Contracting for the construction of a parking structure located at 5300 Acorn Street south of Main Street.  The project basis implemented is called a design build.  This type of project guarantees the owner a do not exceed or maximum project cost.  As explained in City Manager Manns' memorandum dated July 13, 2021 to the CRA, no FFE funds where appropriated for this project.  In this case, the cost for installing electric vehicle charging stations where not included.  As a result, City facility maintenance staff direct purchased and installed eight charging stations with the potential to expand to 16 charging stations in the future.  The final piece of electrical hardware needed to supply power to the stations is an electrical transformer.  Staff has determined that since the contractor has an electrical sub-contractor on site, the cost associated with the purchase and installation cost utilizing the contractor would benefit the City.  The contractor has agreed not to upcharge the City overhead and markup cost as well as mobilization charge.     





RECOMMENDATION:

Approval of the change order is recommended.

 





BUDGET / FISCAL IMPACT:

Funds for this project are identified as Series 2020 Bond proceeds.
