RE:Request to Purchase Night Vision Equipment

REQUEST:
I respectfully request Council authorize the purchase of three (3) Tactical Night Vision Devices.

DISCUSSION:

Our police officers routinely conduct covert nighttime surveillance operations to detect criminal activity at known "hot spots" in our city. I am requesting this night vision equipment as a tool for our officers to "see" more which will help them develop the necessary reasonable suspicion and probable cause to take police action.

 

I am requesting authorization to purchase three (3) AN/PVS 14 Gen 3 Alpha White Phosphor Automated Night Vision Devices from Nord Atlantic USA 9981 S.W. 130 Street, Miami, FL. 33176. These devices are military grade hand-held units that can be attached to camera/recording equipment. Each device with a camera adaptor kit and five-year factory warranty costs $4,288.90. The total cost for three devices is $12,866.00. 



RECOMMENDATION:
I recommend Council authorize the purchase of three (3) Night Vision Devices from Nord Atlantic USA for $12,866.00.

BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:
I am requesting this purchase be paid from the Department's FY 2014/2015 budget.
