Recently, the City's Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor reported that two police department vehicles needed extensive repairs and the cost of the repairs would exceed their value. The first vehicle is a 2002 Dodge Ram pick-up with 146,294 miles on it. Its rear differential imploded which would cost $1,200 to repair. This vehicle was listed for replacement in the Department's proposed FY 2015/2016 budget.
The second vehicle is a 2006 Ford Expedition with 133,939 miles on it. It had major transmission failure and needed front suspension work that together are estimated to cost $3,800 to repair. This vehicle was listed for replacement in the Department's FY 2015/2016 budget.
I am requesting Council authorization to replace the truck with a 2015 Ford F-150 Crew Cab XLT pick-up at a state contract price of $25,081. I am also requesting authorization to replace the Expedition with a 2016 Ford Police Explorer at a state contract price of $24,776. The radios, emergency lighting, weapons mounts and other specialized emergency equipment will be salvaged from the replaced vehicles.
Both vehicles would be purchased from Ford of Port Richey -- 3739 Adams Street, Port Richey, 34652. The total cost for both vehicles is $49,857.
