The purpose of this agenda item is twofold. The first is for City Council to conduct a second and final public hearing regarding the City's Small Cities CDBG-CV application. City Council is requested to take public comment regarding the proposed sidewalk improvement project. The proposed project calls for the establishment of 14,000 linear feet of a six-foot (6 ft.) wide sidewalk system in areas of the city that are not currently serviced by a sidewalk network. The construction of these sidewalks will provide residents with safe pedestrian walkways within the city and will facilitate necessary social distancing, while creating safe spaces for residents. The project area is located in a portion of the city where the following three sites are located: Gulf Middle School, the New Port Richey Public Library and Francis Avenue Park. Additionally, the project area is located in a low/mod income neighborhood where a majority of students walk to school and to other locations of interest. A map has been included with this agenda item for reference.
At the conclusion of the public hearing, City Council is asked to approve Resolution No. 2022-01 which authorizes the submission of the application to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and also gives authorization to the Mayor to sign all documents related to the submission.
