REQUEST: The request before City Council is to review the proposal to be presented by the City's Environmental Committee regarding the prohibition of Polystyrene (styrofoam) containers at City events.
DISCUSSION:
The City's Environmental Committee submitted the attached proposal in August which requests that Polystyrene products be prohibited from use at City events. Based on this proposal, staff reached out to our larger event organizers to gather input on how this prohibition would affect their event should it be implemented. Staff received just one response back and it was from the organizers of the Chasco Fiesta. That response letter is attached to this agenda item to assist City Council with any discussion related to this presentation.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that City Council allow the Environmental Committee to make a presentation regarding the prohibition of Polystyrene (styrofoam) containers at City events as requested.
