The City received an application for a conditional use from the New Port Richey Hotel Group to allow for the construction of an 89 guestroom hotel located at 6218 US 19, adjacent to the recently constructed Keiser University and City Parking Structure. The 1.29 acre parcel of property is zoned Highway Commercial (HC) Zoning District with a Future Land Use of Highway Commercial. The HC zoning district allows for the construction of a hotel with the approval of a conditional use by the City Council.
The City’s Land Development Code requires a hotel to meet the following requirements:
1. 25 or more guestrooms (proposed hotel will contain 89 guestrooms);
2. Guestrooms only accessible from interior hallways (proposed hotel only has interior guestrooms); and
3. Provide for a port-cochere or covered drop-off zone for vehicles and pedestrians for guest drop-off and loading and serves as a formal entry (proposed hotel provides for the covered entry).
As shown above, the proposed hotel meets all requirements for hotels. The proposed hotel compliments the recently constructed Keiser University and the City’s Parking Structure and provides for another strong asset to support the ongoing redevelopment efforts along US 19 and the gateway to the City’s downtown. The Development Review Committee reviewed this matter at their meeting on October 14, 2021 and recommended approval of the conditional use.
