| TO: | City of New Port Richey City Council | | FROM: | Robert M Rivera, Public Works Director | | DATE: | 2/1/2022 | | RE: | First Reading, Ordinance No. 2022-2256: Prohibiting Boat Trailer Parking |
REQUEST:
The request of staff for City Council is to conduct the first reading and approval of Ordinance No. 2022-2256 providing for the prohibition of boat trailer parking along several streets in the Downtown area.
DISCUSSION:
As City Council is aware, during the spring, summer, and fall of each year it is not uncommon for the City’s boat ramp parking area to become full. Overflow parking is available at the former church property off of River Road but unfortunately many boaters choose not to utilize the overflow parking area and choose to park their vehicle and boat trailers along Main Street and other surrounding streets Downtown. Due to safety concerns for other drivers and pedestrians, staff has installed "No Boat Trailer Parking" signs where needed. These types of regulatory signs need to be approved by ordinance to be enforceable by the City’s Police Department. Staff would consider this a house keeping item to accomplish this requirement.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the first reading and approval of Ordinance No. 2022-2256.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:
Should City Council approve the first and second readings of the proposed ordinance the budget impact would be under $500 for the purchase of no parking signs and posts. Funds are allocated in the Street & Right of Way Maintenance Division’s Operating Budget line item 001102-45321 Signs and Sign Material
