Last month I was contacted by Liz Misemer, Director of Operations & Marketing of The Concourse Council, Inc., requesting the donation of the concrete blocks that in years past were used to adorn the Main Street Bridge. Upon my inquiry as to the current usage of the blocks, I learned that the majority of the blocks are being used by the Department of Public Works and as such are providing a beneficial function and therefore are not available.
However, if it meets with the approval of the City Council, the City is in a position to be able to release four (4) of the blocks. In order to do so, the City Council must follow the steps as noted below:
1. Designate the blocks as obsolete
2. Agree to donate the property
With that being said, if this item is approved it sounds as though the use of the blocks at The Concourse will be in effect serving a public purpose. By the way the donation is contingent on the ability of the receiver to pick-up and transport the concrete block to its new location.
