REQUEST:
The request of staff is for the City Council to review and consider for approval, the attached proposal from Frontier Communications in the amount not to exceed $253,800.00 (to be paid in five annual installments of $50,760.00) for the purchase of a dedicated ELAN network connecting all of the City's facilities with a private network.
DISCUSSION:
The network proposed is an enterprise level dedicated fiber network provided by Frontier. Frontier is the owner and operator of the fiber cabling that would connect these locations. This network is underground unlike our current solution which is linked by overhead cabling. As a sole source provider to their fiber lines, Frontier will provide a four hour SLA service agreement increasing our resilience and response to outages. In addition, this network is a mesh topology over our current point-to-point connections. This is a five year agreement with a monthly fee of $4,230.00.
Over the last several years the Technology Solutions Department has worked to lift the service levels of our system replacing dated or home services with enterprise level solutions that provide stronger resources and stability to the City's network. This solution will continue to move the city forward in this endeavor providing increased reliability.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that City Council approve the purchase of the dedicated ELAN network from Frontier as requested.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds for this project in the annual amount of $50,760.00 are allocated from the Technology Solutions account number 001-02-12-024-512-0000-0000-46431. This expenditure would be through a sole source agreement. | | | |
