REQUEST:
I respectfully request Council authorization to utilize forfeiture funds to purchase replacement ballistic shields at a total of $21,450.00.
DISCUSSION:
Our Department has fifteen ballistic shields deployed to patrol supervisors for use during dangerous situations. During a routine equipment inspection, two of the shields were found to have deteriorated and are no longer serviceable. The shields have a five-year warranty which expired in October 2020. There is an immediate need for replacement of all of our current shield inventory.
The replacement shields will be purchased from Federal Eastern International -- 1523 Chaffee Road S, Unit 12, Jacksonville, FL 32221. Federal Eastern International is is a state contract provider for body armor and ballistics. The total cost of this purchase is $21,450.00.
RECOMMENDATION:
I recommend Council authorize utilization of forfeiture funds in the amount of $21,450.00 to purchase the shields as this is an unexpected, unbudgeted expense.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:
There will be no direct fiscal impact to the FY 21/22 police department budget using forfeiture funds for this purchase. | | | |
