RE:	First Reading, Ordinance No. 2016-2063: Roadside Memorials Ordinance

REQUEST:

The request is to conduct a first reading of Ordinance Number 2016-2063 in relationship to Roadway Memorial Markers and to approve the program.

DISCUSSION:

As you already know, some discussion has taken place in respect to the establishment of a roadway memorial marker program. The purpose of the program is to regulate the placement of memorial markers within the city's rights of way to memorialize those who have died as a result of a motor vehicle related crash. In that respect the city attorney has drafted an ordinance and it is attached for your review and consideration. The ordinance addresses the following program elements:

· Roadside Memorial Marker Design

· Duration of Roadside Memorial Marker

· Location of Roadside Memorial Marker and

· Cost of Roadside Memorial Marker

RECOMMENDATION:

The recommendation is for the City Council to conduct a first reading of the Roadside Memorial Marker Program Ordinance and to approve the program.

BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:
No funding is required for this item at this time.
