| TO: | City of New Port Richey City Council | | FROM: | Barret H. Doe, Assistant Public Works Director | | DATE: | 11/1/2022 | | RE: | Approval of Conceptual Design for the 2023 Grand Blvd. “Road Diet” Striping Design Project |
REQUEST:
The request of staff for City Council is to review and consider for approval the attached design concept created by Florida Design Consultants, Inc. showing the proposed “Road Diet” and striping for Grand Blvd.
DISCUSSION:
As Council is aware, the 2021 Grand Blvd. Multi-Use Path (MUP) Project – Architectural and Engineering Services task order was passed by City Council during the October 4, 2022 regular City Council meeting. Also, as City Council is aware, Pasco County is in the process of design for raising the Grand Blvd. bridge just north of Gulf Dr. and south of Riverview Dr. With these items in mind, and with the thought process of reducing automobile speeding in the downtown corridor, staff recommends putting Grand Blvd. between Delaware Ave. and Gulf Dr. on a “Road Diet” in order to prepare drivers for the future multi-use path as well as create safer travel to and from the downtown. On July 15, 2022, a task order was executed between the City and Florida Design Consultants, Inc. for the purposes of having Florida Design Consultants, Inc. provide conceptual striping and “Road Diet” design, taking into account the existing elements of Grand Blvd. and the future projects mentioned above into account.
RECOMMENDATION:
Consideration and approval of the attached road striping and “Road Diet” design concept, Sheet C-04 submitted by Florida Design Consultants, Inc.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds for this project are identified in the City's current Capital Improvement Program in the Street Improvement Fun (701). | | | |
