RE:Request Approval for Reserve Fire Engine Emergency Repair

REQUEST:
The request of staff for City Council is to consider for approval the attached budget amendment and quote to complete the necessary repairs to our reserve fire engine in the amount not to exceed $27,503.08 from Ten-8 Fire & Safety, LLC.

DISCUSSION
:
The fire engine is a 2009 Pierce Impel pumper truck which currently serves as a reserve engine within our fleet of apparatus. The fire engines vital purpose is to support the front-line apparatus in the event either unit goes out of service due to mechanical reasons or preventative maintenance. The reason for the needed repair, is due to the fact that the pump suffered a mechanical failure, according to diagnosis reports conducted by fleet mechanics with Ten-8 Fire & Safety, LLC as well as the City of New Port Richey Fleet Maintenance. The pump assembly required to repair the pump, is proprietary in nature to Pierce Manufacturing. Ten-8 Fire & Safety, LLC is the regional authorized service facility for Pierce Manufacturing. The new pump assembly comes with a three year or 1800-hour warranty. The repair will be funded from proceeds received as the result of the recent auction sale of a 2004 American LaFrance pumper truck and the transfer of wages from unfilled positions within the Fire Department.

RECOMMENDATION:

The recommendation from staff is for City Council to approve the repair as quoted to bring the reserve fire engine back to an operational status, and to also approve the budget amendment as presented to fund the repair.

BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:

$15,000.00 from proceeds received from the auction sale of a 2004 American LaFrance fire engine, pumper truck.

$12,510.00 budgeted savings from unfilled positions within the Fire Department
