On March 7, 2023 the City Council approved the first reading of Ordinance 2023-2272, Chapter 23, Section 23-62 (f) to include “certified parking enforcement specialists” in the ordinance allowing our code officers (who are certified parking enforcement specialists) to issue parking citations when parking violations are observed.
Florida State Statute 316.640 authorizes municipalities to employ as a parking enforcement specialist any individual who successfully completes a training program established and approved by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. As the council is aware, all our code enforcement inspectors are certified parking enforcement specialists through the State of Florida; however, they are not authorized by current city code to enforce parking infractions with the city until this ordinance is enacted.
