RE:First Reading, Ordinance No. 2023-2277: Prohibited Structures

REQUEST:

The request before the Council is to consider the attached ordinance to restrict the use of shipping containers and prohibit them as a permanent structure and to prohibit mobile homes in residential zoned districts other than a Mobile Home Park (MHP) zoned district.



DISCUSSION
:

The Ordinance clarifies the location where two (2) separate types of buildings/structures, Shipping Containers and Mobile Homes, can be sited in the City. 

 

The current policy of the City is to only allow for temporary placement of shipping containers on construction sites that have a valid building permit and are actively under development.

 

Additionally, current Codes permit Mobile Homes to be placed in the Mobile Home Park (MHP) zoning district.

 

This proposed Ordinance codifies current policies and simplifies where Mobile Homes can be placed in the City.

 



RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends adoption of the Ordinance written by the Department.



BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT:

No fiscal impact to the City.
