As City Council is aware, the North River Road Street project is in the construction phase. Included in the project is the proposed installation of an FDOT special emphasis pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection of River Road and Green Key Road. At its current state, the intersection is located on a curvature segment of River Road. Safety concerns for pedestrians crossing at the intersection are present due to the limited visibility for drivers traveling south. Therefore, the need to upgrade the intersection crosswalk to an LED system has been recommended by staff to City Council.
City Council is also aware, redevelopment downtown has created more pedestrian and vehicle conflicts. Several complaints have been received from business owners and patrons about the difficulties crossing and pedestrian near misses with vehicles on Grand Blvd. near the intersection of Missouri Avenue. Public Works maintenance crews have restriped the existing crosswalk and recommend to City Council the need to upgrade the intersection with an LED system to improve pedestrian crossing safety.
