REQUEST:

The request of staff for CRA board of directors is to review the attached bids and the Architect’s bid recommendation memorandum and approve the low bid in the amount not to exceed $707,143.20 and award the project to Augustine Construction Inc.  




DISCUSSION:

As the directors are aware, in 2020 city staff contracted with Wannemacher Jensen Architects for the design of a signature entry feature over Main Street facing US Hwy 19 to highlight the entrance of the City’s downtown area in an effort to create a sense of place and community image.  In addition to the entry feature, elements included in the base bid for the project are landscaping improvements such as trees, shrubs, ground cover, irrigation,  hardscape, and finally the construction of an LED monument sign on the S.E. corner of Main Street and US Hwy 19.

 

On June 1, 2023 two (2) sealed competitive bids were submitted to the City Clerk’s Office.  The two (2) sealed bids were announced and opened on June 2, 2023.  The two (2) bids ranged from a low of $707,143.20 and a high bid of $802,832.22.  It should be noted that both bids include a $50,000 owner’s contingence.




RECOMMENDATION:

Approval of the low bid and project award are recommended.
