| TO: | City of New Port Richey City Council | | FROM: | Robert M Rivera, Public Works Director | | DATE: | 11/17/2015 | | RE: | 15/16 Downtown Parking Lot Asphalt Re-Surfacing Project |
REQUEST:
Attached for your review and consideration by the City Council is a proposal from Gator Grading & Paving, LLC for the asphalt resurfacing of two (2) parking lots Downtown. The parking lots are located at Florida Ave. and Adams St. behind the Arcade and Grand Blvd. and Missouri Ave. behind Jimmy's Restaurant. This work would include the parking lot and a portion of the alley connected to the parking lot. The total cost of the proposal is in the amount not to exceed thirty-seven thousand two hundred ninety-five dollars and no cents ($37,295.00) and contains the same unit pricing as the current Manatee County Contract IFB#12-1479DS for Road Building Materials. The usage of this contract and pricing is in accordance with the city’s purchasing procedures and guidelines.
DISCUSSION:
As Council may recall, the asphalt resurfacing of the two parking lots and the portion of the alley connected to the Grand Blvd. and Missouri Ave. parking lot was included and approved for construction in the City's current Capital Improvement Program. It was determined by staff that the asphalt in the parking lots had served their "useful life" and maintenance of the facilities had exceeded its return on investment. As Council is aware, the parking lot resurfacing program has been spread over several years and these two parking lots are the last of nine to be resurfaced Downtown. This proposed project includes asphalt leveling, asphalt "butt cut" and milling, 1.25" asphalt overlay, replacement of vehicle stops where needed, and the application of thermo-plastic striping. Finally, asphalt millings from the Missouri Ave. & Grand Blvd. parking lot will be used to improve the alley from the southwest corner of the parking lot west to Lincoln St.
RECOMMENDATION:
The action requested of City Council is to approve the “piggyback” of the Manatee County Contract IFB#12-1479DS for Road Building Materials and the proposal from Gator Grading & Paving, LLC for the total amount not to exceed thirty-seven thousand two hundred ninety-five dollars and no cents ($37,295.00).
