RE:15/16 Downtown Parking Lot Asphalt Re-Surfacing Project - Close Out

REQUEST:

The request of staff for City Council is to review and consider for approval the Final Deductive Change Order in the amount of six thousand seven hundred fifteen dollars and ten cents ($6,715.10) and the Final Pay Request in the amount of thirty thousand five hundred seventy-nine dollars and ninety cents $30,579.90 from Gator Grading and Paving LLC for the completion of the 2015/2016 Downtown Parking Lot Asphalt Re-Surfacing Project.

DISCUSSION
:

As Council may recall, the asphalt resurfacing of the two parking lots and the portion of the alley connected to the Grand Blvd. and Missouri Ave. parking lot was included and approved for construction in the City's current Capital Improvement Program.  It was determined by staff that the asphalt in the parking lots had served their "useful life" and maintenance of the facilities had exceeded its return on investment. As Council is aware, the parking lot resurfacing program has been spread over several years and these two parking lots were the last of nine to be resurfaced Downtown.  This project included asphalt leveling, asphalt "butt cut" and milling,  1.25" asphalt overlay, replacement of vehicle stops where needed, and striping.  Finally, asphalt millings from the Missouri Ave. & Grand Blvd. parking lot will be used to improve several alleys.

The deductive change order was the result of lower road material quantities used during construction.

RECOMMENDATION:

Approval of the final deductive change order and final pay request are recommended.
